Award-winning vocalist Ingrid James brings her signature warmth, sophistication, and rhythmic flair to Groovin' High, joined by the exceptional saxophonist, Shelley Bishop and a powerhouse rhythm section to makeup their quintet. In 2025, Ingrid received the Lord Mayor's Australia Day Honour for her outstanding contribution to Arts and Culture in Brisbane, recognising a career defined by artistry, education, and community engagement.
Ingrid's latest album, Search for Peace, was released by ABC Jazz, with a track also featured on ABC Jazz's Australian Women of Jazz '25 compilation. Renowned critic Eric Myers (The Australian) describes Ingrid as one of Australia's "finest female vocalists." A regular performer with her own quintet and a long-standing member of the Brisbane Jazz Orchestra, Ingrid has recorded 12 albums released nationally and internationally.
She is joined by acclaimed saxophonist Shelley Bishop, a dynamic performer and creative force who spent a decade at the legendary Chicago Recording Company, working alongside artists such as Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, and Mavis Staples, and contributing to GRAMMY Award–winning releases. Shelley is also an established composer, presenter, and producer, bringing depth and authority to the ensemble.
Completing the quintet are some of Brisbane's most in-demand musicians: Paul Henderson on guitar, whose versatility spans jazz, world, folk, and classical styles; Samuel Vincent on double bass; and the highly respected Dave Sanders on drums.
Together, the group delivers a richly textured program ranging from the lyrical elegance of the Great American Songbook to rhythmically vibrant explorations of bossa nova, samba, bebop, and beyond. Ingrid's voice—both intimate and expressive—effortlessly blends classic jazz traditions with Brazilian and contemporary influences, creating a performance that is soulful, swinging, and irresistibly engaging.
